You open CapCut, the splash screen appears, the little spinner starts turning... and that's where it stays. No editor, no error, just an endless wait. When CapCut is stuck on the loading screen, it usually isn't because the app is broken — it's because CapCut can't finish the quick check it runs against its servers the moment it starts.
The CapCut desktop app isn't fully offline. At launch it signs you in, validates your account, and loads a few things from ByteDance's servers before it hands you the editor. If any part of that handshake stalls — a dropped connection, a busy server, a firewall in the way — CapCut won't load and you're left watching the spinner.
Below are the fixes that actually clear this up, ordered from quick checks to the heavier ones. Try CapCut again after each step so you know exactly what did the trick.
- CapCut talks to its servers at startup, so a flaky connection or a sign-in problem is the most common reason it loads forever.
- Start with your internet and CapCut's server status, then clear the cache before reaching for a reinstall.
- A firewall or VPN that blocks CapCut's startup check will leave it stuck on the loading screen even though everything else works.
Why CapCut gets stuck loading in the first place
It helps to know what's happening behind that spinner. When you launch the desktop app, CapCut reaches out to its servers to sign you in and load your account before opening the editor. That startup check is the part that breaks when CapCut is loading forever.
The usual causes are:
- No internet, or a weak one — the startup check can't complete, so the app waits indefinitely.
- A sign-in or server-side hiccup — CapCut's servers are down, slow, or rejecting your session.
- A corrupted cache — leftover temporary files from a bad session confuse the app on the next launch.
- A firewall, antivirus, or VPN blocking CapCut's connection to its servers.
- A damaged install after an interrupted update.
You don't need to figure out which one it is. The steps below rule out the common, easy causes first.
1. Check your internet connection
Because CapCut depends on a connection at startup, this is the first thing to rule out — and the most common reason it won't load. Even if your Wi-Fi shows as connected, the link can be too weak or unstable for the sign-in check to finish.
- Open a browser and load any normal website to confirm you're actually online.
- If pages are slow or failing, restart your router and reconnect.
- On Wi-Fi, move closer to the router or switch to a wired connection if you can.
- If you're on a work, school, or public network, note that strict filtering there can block CapCut even when browsing works fine.
Once your connection is solid, fully close CapCut and open it again.
Quick test: Toggle Wi-Fi off and back on, or briefly switch to your phone's hotspot. If CapCut loads on a different network, the problem was your original connection.
2. Check CapCut's sign-in and server status
Sometimes it's not you at all. If CapCut's servers are having a bad day, every step you take on your end won't help — the app simply can't complete its startup check. This is more likely if the problem started suddenly and a restart didn't fix anything.
A few ways to tell:
- Check whether others are reporting the same thing on CapCut's social channels or a service-status tracker.
- Try signing in to your CapCut account in a web browser. If sign-in is sluggish or failing there too, it's a server-side issue.
- If a CapCut update rolled out recently, give it a little time — early hours after a release can be rocky.
If the servers are the problem, the only real fix is to wait it out. Try again in 30 to 60 minutes.
3. Restart your PC
It sounds basic, but a full restart clears stuck CapCut processes, drops any half-open network connections, and resets the services the app leans on. It's one of the highest-success fixes for a frozen loading screen and takes two minutes.
Do a proper restart rather than sleep or shutdown:
- Save anything open in other apps.
- Go to Start > Power > Restart (or restart your Mac from the Apple menu).
- Let the machine come all the way back up.
- Open CapCut and watch whether the loading screen clears this time.
If your PC has been on for days, this is even more likely to work — long uptimes are a frequent cause of apps quietly refusing to load.
4. Sign out and back in
A stale or expired login session is a classic reason CapCut hangs at startup — the app is trying to validate a session that's no longer good, and it waits instead of failing cleanly. Refreshing your sign-in often clears it.
If you can reach any menu before it freezes, sign out and back in from there. If the app freezes too early to do anything, you can force a fresh sign-in by clearing the cache (next step), which wipes the saved session.
Logged out a lot? If CapCut keeps dropping your session entirely, that's a related but separate problem. Our guide on CapCut logging you out covers it in detail.
5. Clear CapCut's cache
CapCut stores temporary files between sessions, and if those get corrupted — usually after a crash or an interrupted close — the app can choke on them the next time it starts. Clearing the cache forces a clean launch and a fresh sign-in, which fixes a lot of stubborn loading issues.
On Windows:
- Close CapCut completely (end any leftover CapCut tasks in Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Press Win + R, type
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Open the CapCut folder and look for a
cacheorTempsubfolder. - Delete the contents of that cache folder (not your project files), then reopen CapCut.
On Mac: close CapCut, then in Finder use Go > Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Caches. Find the CapCut entry and clear its contents.
Be careful: Only clear the cache. Don't delete your projects, drafts, or the whole CapCut data folder, or you risk losing your work.
6. Check your firewall, antivirus, and VPN
If your connection is fine and the servers are up but CapCut is still stuck loading on PC, something on your machine is probably blocking the startup check. The three usual suspects are your firewall, your antivirus, and any VPN you have running.
- VPN: Disconnect it and try CapCut again. VPNs can route your traffic somewhere CapCut's servers respond slowly to — or block entirely.
- Antivirus / firewall: Temporarily disable real-time protection and test. If CapCut loads, add an exception for it rather than leaving protection off.
- Windows Firewall: Make sure CapCut is allowed through under Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Allow an app through firewall.
Re-enable everything once you've identified the culprit, and just whitelist CapCut so the block doesn't come back.
Why this matters: Unlike many apps, CapCut needs to reach its servers at startup. A tool that silently blocks that one connection will leave the app loading forever even though the rest of your internet works perfectly.
7. Reinstall CapCut from capcut.com
If you've worked through everything above, the install itself is likely damaged — often from an update that didn't finish. A clean reinstall replaces the broken files and only takes a couple of minutes.
- Windows: open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find CapCut, and choose Uninstall. Mac: move CapCut from Applications to the Trash.
- Restart your computer to clear out leftover files.
- Go to the official site, capcut.com, and download the latest installer.
- Run it, then open CapCut and let it sign in.
Need a walkthrough of the download itself? See how to download CapCut on Windows 11 for the full step-by-step. If the installer won't even run, our guide on when CapCut won't install on Windows covers that case.
Loads but then crawls? If CapCut finally opens but the editor itself is sluggish, that's a different fix. See CapCut running slow or lagging for speed tips.
