You open CapCut expecting the editor, and instead you get a flat, empty page. No menus, no timeline, no buttons — just a capcut white screen staring back at you. It's a frustrating one because the app clearly launched, it just never finished drawing anything.
The good news is that a blank white screen almost always points to something simple: the app is still loading, it can't reach the internet for the pieces it needs, or its cache got tangled up. None of those require any technical wizardry to fix.
Below we'll walk through why CapCut shows a white screen on startup, then go through the fixes in the order that solves the most cases first. Work down the list and you'll very likely be back in the editor in a few minutes.
- A CapCut white screen is usually a slow load or a network problem, so give it a minute and check your connection before anything else.
- If it stays blank, clear CapCut's cache, update to the latest version, and update your graphics driver.
- As a last resort, a clean reinstall from the official capcut.com site clears almost any stubborn white screen.
Why CapCut shows a blank white screen
When CapCut opens to a capcut blank white screen, it means the program started but the interface never rendered. A handful of things cause that, and knowing which one you're dealing with makes the fix obvious:
- It's still loading. On a slower PC, or the first launch after an update, CapCut can sit on a white or blank page for several seconds while it pulls itself together.
- No internet, or a blocked connection. CapCut loads parts of its interface and online assets from the web. If your connection drops or a firewall blocks it, the page can hang white instead of filling in.
- A corrupted cache. Temporary files CapCut stores between sessions can get damaged, and a bad cache often shows up as a screen that won't draw.
- An outdated app or graphics driver. An old CapCut build or an old GPU driver can fail to render the interface, leaving you with capcut not loading white.
- A broken install. Less common, but missing or damaged program files can stop the interface from ever appearing.
A pure white screen and a frozen loading spinner are slightly different symptoms with a lot of overlap in causes. If yours is stuck on the spinner rather than a blank page, our guide on CapCut stuck on the loading screen covers that angle in more detail.
Fix 1: Give it a minute, then restart the app
Before you change anything, rule out the simplest cause: CapCut just hasn't finished loading. This is especially true right after an update or on the first launch of the day.
- Leave the white screen alone for a full minute. Don't click around — clicking a not-yet-ready window can make Windows or macOS mark it as "Not Responding."
- If nothing appears, close CapCut completely.
- On Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, find any CapCut entries, and click End task so nothing is left running in the background. On Mac, press Cmd + Option + Esc, select CapCut, and choose Force Quit.
- Reopen CapCut and give it a moment to load fresh.
A clean restart clears a surprising number of one-off white screens. If it comes back, move on to your connection.
Fix 2: Check your internet connection
CapCut pulls some of its interface and online assets from the internet, so a dropped or blocked connection is one of the most common reasons for a capcut white screen pc problem. Quick checks:
- Confirm you're actually online. Open a browser and load any normal website. If pages won't load, fix your connection first and try CapCut again.
- Restart your router if your connection is flaky. Unplug it for about 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait for it to fully reconnect.
- Try a different network if you can — switching from Wi-Fi to a wired connection, or to a phone hotspot, quickly tells you whether the network is the problem.
- Look at your firewall or antivirus. Security software sometimes blocks CapCut from reaching the internet. Temporarily allowing CapCut through, then restarting it, will confirm whether that's the cause.
A VPN or a strict office/school network can also block the assets CapCut needs. If you're on one, try turning it off briefly and reopening the app to see if the screen fills in.
Fix 3: Clear CapCut's cache
If a restart and a working connection didn't help, a corrupted cache is the next most likely culprit. CapCut keeps temporary files between sessions, and when those go bad you often get a screen that simply won't render. Clearing them forces CapCut to rebuild a clean set.
You can usually do this from inside CapCut if it loads far enough: open Settings and look for a Clear cache option. If the white screen won't let you reach Settings, clear the cache folder manually instead:
- Close CapCut completely (use Task Manager or Force Quit as in Fix 1).
- On Windows, press Windows + R, type
%LOCALAPPDATA%, and press Enter. Open the CapCut folder, find the cache or temporary folders, and delete what's inside them (not the whole CapCut folder). - On Mac, open Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder, enter
~/Library/Caches, find the CapCut folder, and empty it. - Reopen CapCut.
Only clear cache and temporary files. Don't delete your projects, drafts, or media — those live in a different place, and removing them is not part of this fix.
Fix 4: Update CapCut to the latest version
An outdated build can fail to render its own interface, especially if your operating system has updated underneath it. Running the current version often clears a white screen for good and brings bug fixes along with it.
- If CapCut opens far enough, check Settings for an update option and install anything available.
- If it won't load at all, go to the official site,
capcut.com, and download the latest Windows or Mac version. - Run the installer over your existing copy — it will update CapCut in place without touching your projects.
- Open the updated app and let it load.
Always grab updates from capcut.com rather than a third-party site. Unofficial copies are a common source of broken installs and odd display problems, including blank screens.
Fix 5: Update your graphics driver
CapCut leans on your graphics card to draw its interface and preview your video. An old or buggy GPU driver can leave the window white even when everything else is fine. Updating the driver is a reliable fix that many people skip.
- Find out which graphics card you have. On Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, open the Performance tab, and click GPU to see the model.
- Go to the maker's official site — NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel — and download the latest driver for your model and version of Windows.
- Install it, then restart your PC.
- Open CapCut again.
On a Mac, graphics drivers come bundled with macOS, so instead make sure your system is fully up to date under System Settings > General > Software Update. A pending macOS update can be the difference between a white screen and a working editor.
Fix 6: Reinstall CapCut cleanly
If you've worked through everything above and still get a capcut not loading white screen, the install itself is probably damaged. A clean reinstall replaces every program file and clears out almost any stubborn rendering problem.
- Uninstall CapCut. On Windows, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find CapCut, and uninstall it. On Mac, drag CapCut from your Applications folder to the Trash and empty it.
- Restart your computer. This clears anything still held in memory.
- Download a fresh copy from the official capcut.com site.
- Install and open it. The first launch may take a little longer than usual while it sets up.
Your projects and exported videos are stored separately, so a reinstall doesn't delete your work. If CapCut won't reinstall or the installer itself misbehaves, our walkthrough on what to do when CapCut won't install on Windows covers the usual roadblocks.
If the app loads fine but you get a blank or white page only after trying to sign in, the real issue may be the account rather than the app. In that case, see how to fix CapCut sign-in problems.
